Step into a quiet, welcoming space to read, listen, and gently connect with others who love books.
The Still Room Reading Society meets on alternate Tuesday evenings, beginning on Tuesday 6 January. Each gathering offers time to slow down, savour stories, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being together in a calm, book-centred space.
Across the evenings you can expect a blend of:
- Live audio book readings by actor Sally Burnett, offering warm, expressive storytelling while you curl up with a blanket and warm drink
- Quiet collective reading, where you can enjoy your own book or the group text in companionable silence
- Gentle guided discussion, held with care and curiosity
- Seasonal warm drinks
- A soft, peaceful atmosphere that supports reflection and rest and the meeting of likeminded people
You are welcome whether you read regularly or are simply returning to the practice as a mindful way to relax. There is no pressure to speak. Listening, reflecting and simply being in the room are just as welcome.
These evenings reflect The Still Room Studio’s values of stillness, authenticity, curiosity, connection, community, lightness and gentle contribution. You can come exactly as you are, with no preparation required.
Your Facilitator – Sally Burnett
Sally Burnett is an actor, voice artist and lifelong booklover. Originally from Scotland and trained at ALRA in London, she has worked across theatre, television and audio since the early 1990s. Alongside roles at the Royal National Theatre, in regional rep and in long-running TV dramas, Sally has developed a deep passion for spoken storytelling and the rich, intimate world of audiobook performance.
Sally has been involved in drama and creative workshops throughout her career, sharing her love of story, character and expression with learners of all ages. She brings a warm, encouraging presence to her sessions, supporting others to connect with language, tone and the sensory experience of reading. For Sally, books and voices belong together; she believes there is something restorative and deeply human in gathering to listen, reflect and share stories in gentle company.
