Course Objectives: Participant will be able to
1. Utilize the STABLE mnemonic as a standardized approach to providing safe, quality care.
2. Identify assessment and intervention priorities in the stabilization care of sick newborns.
3. Outline recommendations for nursing care in a baby at risk for hypoglycemia.
4. Discuss thermoregulation and impact on the physiologic changes necessary for transition.
5. Discuss assessment and evaluation of respiratory distress in the newborn.
6. Compare / contrast clinical findings for common respiratory conditions.
7. Describe nursing interventions for care of infant receiving respiratory support.
8. Define the three classifications of shock and possible etiologies for each category.
9. Identify components of cardiac output and the clinical indications of poor cardiac output.
10. Demonstrate ability to apply lab work analysis to help identify the infant at risk for infection.
11. Identify three ways healthcare providers can support parents of sick infants.
12. Recognize the role of effective communication and teamwork to improve safety and prevent harm.
