Join us for The Spring Classic, an evening mahjong tournament hosted by Mahjong with Paisley at Paisley Boutique on Wednesday, March 25th.

Designed for players who enjoy structure, community, and friendly competition, The Spring Classic brings together NMJL players for a well-run night of play in the heart of Webster Groves.

Whether you joined us for the Winter Classic or are attending your first Mahjong with Paisley tournament, this evening is meant to feel welcoming, organized, and fun.

Tournament Format

• 48 total players
• 12 tables of 4
• 3 rounds of tournament-style play
• NMJL rules

(Awarded to the player with the highest total Mahjong points accumulated from all Mahjong hands declared during the tournament.)

Is This Event Right for Me?

This tournament is a great fit if you:

• Enjoy structured, tournament-style play

• Want to spend a spring evening playing mahjong and connecting with others
  

This event may not be the best fit if you are brand new to mahjong or looking for instructional play. Our classes and open play sessions are a better place to start.

Rules of Play

These guidelines are in place to ensure fair play, clear expectations, and a smooth tournament experience.

Racking Tiles

• You must rack a tile before discarding.
• A tile is considered racked (and the previous discard is dead) only when fully placed on the sloped part of the rack.
• Racking a claimed tile directly into your rack instead of placing it on top to expose results in a dead hand.
• Tapping the rack does not count.

Calling & Mahjong

• Once the next player racks their tile, the opportunity to call has passed.
• Once a tile is called and touched, the call stands.
• If an incorrect tile is called, the hand is dead for that round.
• If Mahjong is declared incorrectly, the hand is dead for that round.

Dead Hands & Jokers

• A hand is considered dead if it can no longer legally win under NMJL rules.
• If you realize your hand is dead, please let the table know right away and place your hand face up so play can continue smoothly.
• A dead hand scores zero points for that round.
• Jokers may be claimed only from exposed sets of a dead hand.
  

Common reasons a hand becomes dead include:

• Picking up an illegal discard
• Having an incorrect number of tiles
• Using a joker illegally (pairs, singles, flowers, etc.)
• Exposed tiles that cannot fit any legal hand

Honor System & Sportsmanship

Mahjong with Paisley tournaments are played in the spirit of fair play, respect, and community.

• Players are expected to play honestly and to the best of their ability.
• If a mistake is made, we ask that it be acknowledged and corrected when possible.
• This tournament operates on an honor system.
• Questions or uncertainties should be addressed calmly and respectfully at the table or with a tournament host.

• Instruction will not be provided during the tournament
