The South West Community-Led End-of-Life and Palliative Care Research Symposium

A Compassionate Communities approach highlights that ageing, caring, dying and grief are not experiences that belong solely to health and aged care services. Families, neighbours, friends and communities all play an important role in helping people live well throughout later life.
Perhaps the challenge of longevity is not simply helping people to age in place, but ensuring they continue to have a place, a voice, and a valued role within their communities.
This forum will explore how local communities can play a leading role in identifying, shaping and advancing end-of-life and palliative care research across the South West.
Bringing together community members, community organisations, Compassionate Communities leaders, death care professionals, researchers, health practitioners and community leaders, the symposium will highlight innovative initiatives already underway throughout the region while exploring future opportunities for community-led research, partnership and collaboration.
The day will provide valuable opportunities to connect, exchange knowledge and foster meaningful cross-sector partnerships. Participants will engage in conversations about strengthening community responses to death, dying, caregiving and grief, while contributing to a shared research agenda that reflects local priorities, experiences and aspirations.
The symposium will also celebrate our Compassionate Communities Champions, recognising the individuals and organisations whose leadership, dedication and vision are helping to build more connected, compassionate and death- literate communities across the South West.
Please note: Support payments are available to help with the costs of taking part. If you would like to be considered, please let us know on the application form.
