The People's Docket provides a brave space where folks can share their lived experiences related to energy & environmental justice.
About this Event

The People’s Docket is designed to provide a safe and inclusive space where community members can share their stories, lived experiences, and concerns related to energy, environment, and climate justice. It ensures that voices too often left out of formal hearings are centered and preserved.

Before the People's Docket begins we will visit the grounds of the former Allen Benedict Court Apartments, a place where environmental neglect and systemic failure stole lives and uprooted families. This guided tour invites participants to bear witness to that history, honor the voices of those impacted, and connect the struggle for environmental justice in Columbia to the broader fight for dignity, accountability, and repair across South Carolina.

Unlike traditional hearings where community voices are often minimized or dismissed, the People’s Hearing flips the script: residents, frontline leaders, and impacted families are the experts. Through testimony, storytelling, and collective dialogue, the hearing creates a record of lived experiences that stand alongside technical data. The process is also a form of data preservation and community archiving, ensuring that community knowledge, struggles, and solutions are not lost but instead documented as part of the public record.
