Header: CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY: THE SOUL FOOD LEGACY DINNER

Description: Join SMS Novel Films this January February as we honor the rich history, resilience, and artistry of Black culinary traditions. This isn't just a meal; it’s a filmed documentary experience and "Chef Battle" dedicated to the flavors that have shaped generations. We’re celebrating the stories behind the recipes—from the Sunday dinner table to the modern gourmet kitchen.

The Experience:

  • The Heritage Battle: Two top local Black cooks compete live, tasked with creating a "Heritage Plate" that modernizes a traditional Soul Food staple.
  • The Storytelling Dinner: As you dine, the chefs and a "Heritage Guide" share the history of the ingredients—from the origins of okra and yams to the evolution of cornbread and collards.
  • The Filmed Record: This event is recorded as part of our SMS Novel: Black Excellence documentary series. Your reactions, reviews, and stories will be part of the final film.
  • The Community Vote: Sample both competition dishes and vote for the chef who best honors the legacy of Soul Food through taste, technique, and story.

What’s Included:

  • 3-Course Heritage Meal: Featuring soulful appetizers, the competition entrees, and a classic Southern dessert.
  • Live History Presentation: A deep dive into the culinary contributions of the Black community.
  • Documentary Feature: A digital copy of the episode featuring your appearance sent to you the next day.
  • Networking: Connect with local creators and neighbors in a raw, authentic environment.

"Honoring the past by tasting the future. Join us for a raw, authentic celebration of Black history and culinary genius."
