Greg ( troop) trooper was a New Jersey born singer songwriter,who released 10 studio albums, & a number of live albums,Greg was held in high esteem by his peers, his songs were recorded by many fellow songwriters,including steve earle ( little sister) vince gill (we won’t dance)billy Bragg (everywhere),Greg passed away in 2017.
phil nelson, was born in barrow in Furness, and has spent 34 years as a london cabbie, a life long music fan , phil has been part of the London pub rock circuit for many years under his own name.
Phil is a very modest unassuming man, I guess a lot of folks who have bumped into Phil at a gig ,will be surprised to learn about his musical past.
Phil attended a Greg trooper show here at kingsmead, and sometime after Greg’s sad passing, suggested the idea of doing something to remember” troops” great legacy of his recorded work.
