Step into the rich, quirky, and compelling musical world of The Skally Line — one of Minnesota’s most widely traveled bands you might not have heard of… yet! Led by storyteller and mandolinist Fred Keller, joined by guitarist Bill Cagley and bassist Dave Tousley, this powerhouse trio brings nearly 130 years of combined folk and bluegrass experience to the stage.
What makes The Skally Line truly unique? Fred digs into the forgotten corners of Minnesota history, unearthing strange, unsung tales and turning them into original songs. Blending old-time, string band blues, bluegrass, Tin Pan Alley, Irish influences, and more, their show becomes an unforgettable mix of storytelling, hot picking, and rich harmonies.
Having performed everywhere from libraries and history museums to rendezvous sites and special events across rural Minnesota, The Skally Line shines in intimate listening rooms — making the Music Loft a perfect match for their immersive, engaging performance style.
The band is especially energized this year thanks to Fred’s 2025 MN State Arts Board Creative Individual Grant, which supported their upcoming CD and book “Drifting Down The Kettle.” They’ll be taking this exciting new work on the road in 2026… but first, you get to experience them right here at the Loft.
Don’t miss this extraordinary evening of storytelling and song from Minnesota’s musical past — reimagined and brought vividly to life.
