The Sitcom Writers' Room Experience with David Punch

Join fellow writers for weekly two-hour classes to team up and craft episode 2 of an original half-hour TV show! Since 2003, Punch has created, produced, written, and contributed to a wide range of TV comedies and dramedies, feature films, a musical, and other projects that have appeared on HBO, Fox, IFC, NBC, and screens across the country and the world!

The fee is $395 per student. To help reduce costs for the consumer via Eventbrite, Harbor Media will be in touch soon with details about payment options.

This class will be conducted during February vacation, in Harbor Media's TV Studio on Tuesday - Friday, 12:30 - 3:30 PM. The class day will be confirmed before the first session.

For the TV Writers’ Room Experience class, you’ll spend six two-hour classes collaborating with a roomful of fellow writers to craft the second episode of an original half-hour comedy series – exactly the way it happens in the world of showbiz!

This hands-on class jumps straight into the action. You'll pitch ideas, build on each other's thoughts, and collaborate to create the funniest TV episode possible.

It matters not whether you’re an experienced writer or you’ve never written a word before. Just bring a positive attitude, a willingness to participate out loud, and the ability to hear a well-intentioned “I get it, but no.”

In exchange, you’ll learn about making stories specifically for half-hour comedy, the best way to punch-up jokes, the crucial skill of teamwork, and how best to match your personality to that of a professional writers’ room.

And while this isn’t a writing class per se, we’ll inevitably get into discussions of what makes a compelling character, how to reveal that character through choices, the difference between story and plot, how to use language economically, how to give and receive notes, and a whole lot more!
