Education freedom has always started with courageous individuals willing to take one small step. On Mississippi's Gulf Coast, The Sisters of Mercy and the community of Nativity BVM stood against the odds to bring faith, learning, and opportunity to children in the wake of hardship and change. From their arrival to the state in 1860 through Reconstruction, these women built schools, nurtured minds, and helped lay the foundation that served every child β no matter their background β planting seeds of hope that still shape Mississippi today. Now, more than a century later, citizens of The Magnolia State face the same challenge: how to expand opportunity and give every family the freedom to choose the education that best fits their children.
