The Silver Lining ProjectYou have something in you. A story, an idea, a feeling that hasn’t taken shape yet. Something that is ready to be made.
Over three months, we’re going to do that together.
In The Silver Lining Project, your personal story is at the heart of the journey. We believe that recovery and lived experience not only bring challenges, but can also become sources of strength, wisdom, and inspiration. Your silver lining—that which shines in your journey, despite or even because of the disruptions you’ve faced—forms the starting point.
Sometimes that glimmer is already clear, and sometimes it still needs to be uncovered.
What is The Silver Lining Project?
A free 3-month creative program for young adults aged 18–30 in Groningen. Every Wednesday from 14:00 to 17:00 — at first in person, later partly online — at Sedna Herstelacademie.
You work step by step toward a creation that is truly yours and present it during the Community Night — our public closing ceremony.
What you take away
> A finished creation, in your form and at your pace
> Insight into your talents and what drives you
> Recovery-oriented techniques you can use beyond the program
> An expanded network of peers and cool organisations
> A volunteer day at a social organisation of your choice
> A boost for your CV
> An official MDT certificate
“It brought me closer to my dreams — and gave me tools to really do something with them.”
— participant from a previous program
This program is for you if:
> You want to make something, but keep putting it off
> You feel you have more to offer than you’re currently showing
> You want to grow in your talent and in your expression
> You’re available on Wednesday afternoons
The program is inclusive and open to everyone living in and around Groningen. Sessions are facilitated in Dutch and English depending on the group — internationals are very welcome.
This program is less suitable if you’re looking for a casual one-off workshop or need intensive individual support.

We start on Wednesday April 15, 14:00-17:00!
The program:
Weeks 1–4: Connect
You get to know yourself and the group. You discover your story, where your strengths lie, and what drives you. You’ll be introduced to recovery-oriented techniques you can use beyond the program. By the end of this phase, you know what you want to work toward.
Weeks 5–8: Create
You shape your project — step by step, in your own way. You complete a volunteer day at a social organisation of your choice and discover how your talent can mean something to others. By the end of this phase, you have something that concretely exists.
Weeks 9–12: Celebrate
You wrap up, practice presenting, and share what you’ve made. The Community Night is the closing event: a public ceremony where you show what has emerged over three months.
What can you create?
Anything that is genuinely yours. There is not a right or wrong format - you are free to choose.
With words
A personal essay, a zine, a series of poems, an open letter, a monologue, song lyrics, a podcast episode, or a mini-documentary.
Visual & hands-on
A series of drawings or paintings, a photo series, a collage, an installation, a handmade book, or a moodboard that creates a world.
Movement & sound
A dance performance, a choreography, a piece of music, a soundscape, a guided meditation, or a small ritual ceremony.
A project or initiative
A workshop you design yourself, a community activity, a social media series, a mini-exhibition, or a plan for something you’re actually going to do.
Or something that isn’t listed here. Maybe you don’t know yet what it will be. That’s fine — you’ll discover it during the Connect phase.
