The Sierra Nevada didn’t just “appear”. It was forged by fire, lifted by ancient forces, and shaped by dramatic events that continue today. In this 90-minute STEM presentation, kids and parents will explore the fascinating geologic story behind this most iconic mountain range of California and Nevada. Through high-resolution videos, real geologic samples and audience participation, we’ll learn:
• How continents collide and create mountain ranges
• How hot magma built a mass of rock 400 miles long
• Why the Sierra Nevada rose and are still rising today
• How anyone can search for the rocks that reveal these secrets
Interactive: Kids can ask questions throughout and study the rocks that form the Sierra.
