The Side Door: A Generative Writing Workshop
About this Event
You don't need to come with a project. In fact, you don't need to know what you want to write at all! With the guidance of writer and humorist Bryn Durgin, you'll come away from this hands-on workshop with new material, ideas worth following, and, most importantly, a collection of strategies to return to.
Sometimes the most direct way into a piece of writing isn't the way in at all.The Side Door: A Generative Writing Workshop is about finding other ways onto the page, so prepare to experiment with all sorts of approaches.
We'll read a little and write a lot, working through a range of exercises designed to generate new material and shake loose what's already there. Some will give you a starting point; some will give you rules or constraints to work within; others will ask you to approach something you're already writing from an entirely different direction. The point isn't to produce something polished. It's to play around, follow unexpected turns, and see what happens when you stop trying to enter through the front door.
Writers of all levels and genres (fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoir, and anything in between) are welcome.
The workshop cost is $75 and includes the three-hour session on Sunday, October 25, from 2-5 p.m.
