Elling Eide Center - Mango Preservation Party
About this Event
Activity
Usually, volunteers gather at the Elling Eide Center to help with habitat restoration and enhancement at our 72-acre bay-front nature preserve, help care for Elling's 7-acre fruit and ornamental tree arboretum, or support the native plant conservation seed bank and horticulture program. Specific activities are determined in the days prior to the event, based on Preserve needs.
Following work, interested guests are invited to join a potluck picnic, described below.
Summer Special: Mango Processing and Preservation Party
The Eide Center arboretum is filled with mature mango trees, and they are loaded with fruit this year. To celebrate, volunteer events in June and July will emphasize a connection with mangoes. During this special volunteer session, volunteers will cut and process mangoes so that they can be turned into preserves, ice cream, or dried fruit. These mango treats will be used throughout the year at Eide Center events, strengthening the connection between the research library and the preserve. Additionally, volunteers will learn how to preserve mangoes through various methods, and will enjoy the fruit at the potluck picnic.
