In a rare live performance of two simpatico artists hailing from opposite sides of the country, San Francisco vocalist Sherri Roberts reunites with longtime collaborator New York bassist Harvie S to revisit material from their acclaimed CDs, as well as delve into newer favorites.Called “A superior bop and standards vocalist” by the Los Angeles Times, Sherri is deeply influenced by the West Coast Cool vocal style of the ’50’s, while Harvie cut his musical teeth on the bandstand as a distinguished leader and sideman with countless East Coast jazz heavyweights. They’ve bridged this geographic divide over the decades by co-producing four recordings that “demonstrate(s) the synergy two empathetic artists can share when the stars are in line.” (All About Jazz.)
While Harvie is in the Bay Area they will begin production on their 5th collaborative recording along with pianist David Udolf, a tribute to the Chet Baker Songbook - memorializing a program Sherri first debuted at Keys Jazz Bistro including her original lyrics to Chet’s scat solos. Several of these tunes will be featured in this evening’s repertoire at Keys.
Harvie S is an award winning bassist and veteran of the jazz and Latin scenes, and he’s recorded and toured with the likes of Kenny Barron, Stan Getz, Karrin Allyson, Pat Martino and John Scofield among many others. His innovative creative partnership with Sheila Jordan redefined bass/vocal performance.
For this special evening, they will be joined on the bandstand with Keys Bistro favorites David Udolf on piano and one of Harvie’s other frequent musical compadres Sylvia Cuenca on drums.
2 sets: 7pm and 9pm
