🪐 🪐 Каква форма има Вселената? Въпрос, който изглежда едновременно невъзможен и изключително човешки. Ако за формата на един стол или на Земята можем да си представим поглед отвън, то какво означава „форма на Вселената“, ако никога не можем да излезем извън нея? И има ли въобще край или отвъд границите просто няма „отвъд“?На 28 октомври на сцената на Ratio гостува проф. Глен Старкман – космолог от Case Western Reserve University и един от учените, които търсят постоянно отговор на един от най-фундаменталните въпроси: Каква е формата на Вселената? 🔭
Заедно с проф. Старкман ще изследваме как космолозите „слушат“ младата Вселена – чрез ехото на акустичните вълни, оставили отпечатък в космическия микровълнов фон и в структурата на галактиките. Ще научим как настоящите и бъдещи експерименти – от сателити за наблюдение на космическия фон до нови методи като line intensity mapping – могат да променят представата ни за Космоса. 🎶🎶
Ще обсъдим въпроси, които преобръщат разбирането ни за мястото ни във Вселената:
☄️Как можем да измерим формата на Вселената, без да я погледнем отвън?
☄️Може ли тя да има край – и ако да, какъв?

What Is the Shape of the Universe?
A question that feels both impossible and profoundly human. When we think about the shape of a chair -or even of the Earth – we can imagine looking at it from the outside. But what does it mean to speak of “the shape of the Universe” if we can never step outside it? And does it even have an end or beyond its limits, is there simply no “beyond”? 🔭
On October 28, Ratio welcomes Prof. Glenn Starkman, cosmologist at Case Western Reserve University and one of the scientists seeking answers to one of the most fundamental questions of all: What is the shape of the Universe? 🔭
Together with Prof. Starkman, we’ll explore how cosmologists “listen” to the young Universe – through the echo of acoustic waves imprinted in the cosmic microwave background and in the large-scale structure of galaxies. We’ll learn how current and future experiments – such as cosmic background satellites and new techniques like line intensity mapping – might reshape our understanding of the Cosmos. 🎶🎶
We’ll discuss questions that challenge our very perception of our place in the Universe:
☄️How can we measure the shape of the Universe without ever looking at it from the outside?
☄️Could it have an edge, and if so, what kind?
☄️Are all places and directions truly the same, or is the Cosmological Principle just an illusion?
The Shape of the Universe will be more than a lecture – it’s an invitation to embark on a journey beyond the boundaries of the known, guided by one of the most fascinating voices in modern cosmology. 💫
