The Sequin Social with Claire A. Baker
About this Event
We are celebrating the autumn with another seasonal social- this time, we are being joined by the incredible Claire A. Baker for a relaxed skill sharing session. Claire will be teaching us her renowned sequin technique, as we all mix and mingle!
Claire's creative practice is research-led, socially engaged, and rooted in long-term dialogue and collaboration. She seeks to preserve intangible knowledge while creating artworks that foster connection, understanding, and enduring cultural legacy. Most known for her work in Chornobyl, Ukraine, her most recent work explores the mending of human emotions relating to separation, grief, loss and love.
She set up the Secret Sequin Society locally, nurturing a making community brought together through a shared love of sequins and sparkle. Together, they create maximalist, highly embellished artworks from sequins, beads and broken jewellery, celebrating the value of time, mindful labour and connection.
The Sequin Social will be hosted at The Social Room, Stockton, with a free drink on arrival and the opportunity to meet some very cool Tees Valley Freelancers.
