Join us as we honor our story!Founded in 1938, in the shadow of the holocaust, the story of The Selfhelp Home is the story of Chicago's Jewish refugee community. Join us as we celebrate that story at our 2026 Gala.
Every gift to A Story Celebrated will support a permanent exhibit that preserves this story through photographs, artifacts, a pictorial timeline, and the voices of those who lived it. This history belongs to all of us, and your gift brings it to life.

Enjoy a bespoke theatrical performance with actress Cindy Gold and playwright James Sherman adapted from “The First Lady of Television,” the acclaimed play celebrating the life and legacy of Gertrude Berg.
Plus, contemporary klezmer music by M’Chaiya, and introducing our inaugural 18 Over 80 honorees, celebrating the people who are the heart of Selfhelp.
