About this Event
Join us for an engaging town hall conversation with Tushar Gandhi an author, public intellectual, and the great-grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi. Participants will be able to dialogue directly on the state of nonviolent resistance and democracy locally and globally with Tushar Gandhi, great-grandson of Mohandas Gandhi - one of the most consequential figures of the 20th century - a complicated individual whose efforts helped defeat white supremacist, British Colonial rule over South Asia.
In recent years, Tushar Gandhi and descendants of Martin Luther King, Jr. (Joel King) and Coretta Scott King (Gregory Foster) have joined together annually in the U.S. to hold an event for the Season for Nonviolence (January 30th – April 4th) sponsored by the Gandhi-King Center for Nonviolence (Dayton, Ohio). The Gandhi-King Center for Nonviolence is comprised of family members from both the Gandhi and King legacies, along with other like-minded individuals with extensive experience in peacebuilding, nonprofit leadership, advocacy, and resilience. It is dedicated to promoting nonviolence, peace, and justice in our community and beyond. It believes in the power of education and activism to inspire change and resolve conflict.
A Season For Nonviolence encompasses the 64 calendar days between the commemorative dates of Gandhi’s assassination and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s. It is a national educational, media, and grassroots campaign dedicated to demonstrating that non-violence is a powerful way to heal, transform, and empower our lives and our communities. The purpose of this site is to promote and spread the principles of nonviolence, creating a more inclusive, understanding, and compassionate society, ultimately helping to bridge the social divide in communities here at home and across America.
Tushar Gandhi is an author, public intellectual, and the great-grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi. The author of "Let's K*ll Gandhi" (Rupa Books; 2007) and "The Lost Diary of Kastur, My Ba" (HarperCollins India; 2022), he is also the Founder of the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation and a Board Member of the Gandhi-King Center for Nonviolence, comprised of family members from both the Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. legacies. In 2023, Tushar Gandhi was appointed as the Ambassador for “Return to Palestine.”
