It will be two completely different nights of music with no song repeats over the weekend. The artwork for this event is to pay tribute to the original venue owner : MAXINE.
VENUE HISTORY :
Maxine’s in Hot Springs was originally a notorious brothel run by madam Maxine Temple Jones, which served a wealthy and powerful clientele during the city’s heyday. Today, the name refers to a modern restaurant and music venue, Maxine’s Live, built on the site of the old brothel. Maxine Temple Jones’s story is famously detailed in her autobiography, Maxine: “Call Me Madam”. Born Dora Maxine Temple, she became a well-known madam in Hot Springs, managing a successful brothel for about 20 years. The brothel catered to a diverse and powerful group, including prominent businessmen, organized crime figures, federal judges, and members of Congress. She started her career in Texarkana before moving to Hot Springs in 1948, where she eventually bought her own house of prostitution in 1950. She wrote an autobiography, Maxine: “Call Me Madam”. The book details her life and experiences running the business. It also sheds light on the corruption and criminal element that were part of Hot Springs during that era. Jones retired in 1983. The city eventually shut down its illegal gambling operations, and the era of prominent organized crime in Hot Springs came to an end. The location has been converted into a modern restaurant and live music venue called Maxine’s Live. It is one of the many unique spots in Hot Springs that pay homage to the city’s colorful past.

SCHWAG BAND BIO :
The Schwag is a band of musicians dedicated to carrying on the vibe and music of the legendary Grateful Dead. Founded in 1990 The Schwag has performed over 4000 concerts all over the United States. This group has a working songlist of over 250 songs from the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band catalog. For four years band leader Jimmy Tebeau also toured the country as the bass player for JGB (Jerry Garcia Band). The Schwag has opened for many noteable acts including String Cheese Incident, Marshall Tucker Band, Leftover Salmon, Sammy Hagar, Little Feat, and Railroad Earth. For many years The Schwag hosted and still hosts its own music festivals in Missouri called Schwagstock and another event called Byrdfest in Arkansas. The band owned the venue Camp Zoe in Missouri where the festivals were hosted. Some of the bands opening for The Schwag at these festivals were George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Keller Williams, Big Brother & the Holding Company, and New Riders of the Purple Sage. Some of the guest musicians to play with The Schwag over the years include Chuck Berry, Bill Nershi from String Cheese Incident, Drew Emmitt and Vince Herman from Leftover Salmon, Butch Trucks from The Allman Brothers Band, Fred Tacket from Little Feat, Mike Gordon from Phish, and Vince Welnick from The Grateful Dead. Honorary band members for full Schwag shows include Merl Saunders, Melvin Seals, Johnnie Johnson, Jason & Travis & Kang from String Cheese Incident, and Devon Allman (Gregg’s son.) The Schwag band is now stronger than ever on a perpetual tour performing a different show every night of high energy organic interpretations of the Grateful Dead.
