About this Event
Come join us on Sat Sep 20, 2025 at The Macon Branch Library on 361 Lewis Avenue for an afternoon of film, fun and community. Our club celebrates the rich African history in cinema, showcasing powerful stories and talented filmmakers from the diapora.
We are going to watch the following film: A. Philip Randolph: For Jobs and Freedom: The Father of the Modern Civil Rights Movement. Ask most people who led the 1963 March on Washington and they'll probably tell you Martin Luther King, Jr. But the real force behind the event was the man many call the pre-eminent black labor leader of the century and the father of the modern civil rights movement: A. Philip Randolph.
Randolph believed that economic rights was the key to advancing civil rights. A. PHILIP RANDOLPH: FOR JOBS AND FREEDOM takes viewers on a tour of 20th-century civil rights and labor history as it chronicles Randolph's legendary efforts to build a more equitable society.
Grab some popcorn, settle in and immense yourself in the beauty of African storytelling. Whether you're a film buff or just looking for a unique experience, The Sankofa Cinema Club is the place to be. Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and discover new cinematic gems!
