About this Event
In 2023, an official bid was launched to recognize Italian cuisine as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage element. As part of the ongoing evaluation for its candidacy, Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the historic magazine La Cucina Italiana, have joined forces on a cultural project. I Racconti delle Radici – Tales of the Roots - tells the story of Italian food during the 21st century’s Great Emigration. As Italians migrated all over the world, they brought with them their ancestral recipes – many of which were adapted to fit the ingredients, traditions and habits of different cultures.
In collaboration with this program, Eataly Yorkville will host a cooking class on two unique dishes that have been adapted in North America: Spaghetti and Meatballs, and Chicken Parmesan.
In this class, guests will:
· Learn about this project, these two notable dishes, and their roots in Italy
· Shape their own pasta, and watch as the chef demonstrates how to make both dishes
· Taste both dishes, paired with wine
· Take home the fresh pasta they have made
This class is part of a global series Eataly will be hosting to share the stories and recipes of Italian culinary heritage. During the week of June 2nd, Italian Republic Day, 15 Eataly stores in Italy, UK, Germany, United States, Canada and UAE will host educational classes and tastings about the story of select Italian recipes that were adapted and developed cult followings in their new country. These include the fish stew Cioppino in the U.S. and Ñoquis del 29, the gnocchi which, in some Latin American countries, are traditionally eaten on the 29th of each month.
