Goals:
- Recognize the role of trauma in the expression of chemical dependence.
- Understand the treatment plan for co-occurring complex trauma and CD.
- Review the role of unresolved trauma in relapse.
Dr. Malone is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in General Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Psychoanalysis. Widely recognized for his clinical expertise and dedication to patient care, he has been named one of Texas Monthly's "Best Doctors in Texas" (Top 5%) for 14 consecutive years and is a member of the publication's prestigious Hall of Fame.
Dr. Malone earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology with Honors from Southern Methodist University (SMU) before receiving his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. He later completed his psychoanalytic training at the Dallas Psychoanalytic Institute and is board-certified in Psychoanalysis by the American Psychoanalytic Association.
A respected educator and mentor, Dr. Malone serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center and as a Senior Teaching Analyst at the Dallas Psychoanalytic Institute.
Malone has authored numerous publications in inpatient psychiatry, psychodynamic treatment, addiction medicine, and neurophysiology. He has served as a media consultant for television and radio programs and has been featured as an expert source in national publications, including Cosmopolitan and Newsweek.
Dr. Malone's clinical practice focuses on the comprehensive treatment of psychiatric and substance use disorders through an integrated approach that combines evidence-based Medic*tion management with psychotherapy. His passion is helping patients find relief from emotional suffering while empowering them to live healthier, fuller, and more meaningful lives.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Malone is an avid athlete and outdoor enthusiast. A former collegiate swimmer at SMU, he continues to enjoy swimming, basketball, and outdoor activities—and has even completed the iconic swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco.
