About this Event

Wind turbines – an anchorage too far?

The role of floating wind turbines meeting future net-zero commitments

Atilla will describe how clean energy is generated from offshore wind turbines; the challenges in their design, installation, operation and maintenance, and decommissioning; discuss whether the turbines should be fixed or floating?

He will question whether the Government’s subsidies are sufficient for offshore wind, given the technical difficulties, to meet the 2030 target for 50GW.

Professor Atilla Incecik is Professor of Offshore Engineering, since from 2007 at Strathclyde University. He served as the Head of Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering among many other roles.

Professor Incecik's research activities include the development of hydrodynamic design and analysis tools, and model testing of marine and offshore engineering systems, including offshore renewable energy devices.
