The Ritual of Adornment: Tattoos, Intuition, and Your Body as an Altar

The witchy season is here! Join us for a 4-hour witchy tattoo workshop & ritual, led by the incredible artist Lindsey Strong! We will explore the idea of the body as an altar and the ritual way tattooing activates intentions, making your tattoos more meaningful overall.

This class is for inspiration around tattoo design, placement, and questions about the tattoo process as a ritual to amplify the natural beauty of the body and self.

In this 4-hour class, you can expect to:

• Explore how ritual adornment & tattoos create meaningful opportunities to modify your body for aesthetic, sentimental, spiritual, or healing purposes.
• Learn the importance of following your own intuition and maintaining boundaries.
• Join in a community ritual
• Explore these ideas through creative activities and prompts

During this special class, 3 folks will have the opportunity to get tattooed during the gathering! There will be a lecture, community ritual, guided conversation, and art-making activities. Charcuterie board & bevies included with your ticket!

Those who purchase Community Ritual Only tickets will receive a temporary tattoo, so you can still explore in real time the ritual around tattoos.

Tattoos are personal symbols of beauty and power that modify the body to form a deeply personal aesthetic, and allow us an opportunity to grow, heal, and evolve within ourselves. We are able to learn from our bodies, reward them with beauty, and fall in love with our own skin.

When approaching tattoos as a practitioner of witchcraft, we are able to use what we know about symbolism, energy, nature, intuition, and boundaries to navigate a culture that is increasingly dominated by a capitalistic approach of fast food style tattoo collecting.

By approaching our tattoo journey as witches, we grow into an understanding that we are living in our one sacred vessel and through intuitive and intentional adornment we become more realized in our own existence, not just aesthetically (which alone is very powerful) but also through the process of claiming and decorating parts of the body we might struggle with, like placing a love spell tattoo on your strong, tender, beautifully stretchmarked inner arm, so it sits close to your heart and reminds you to show yourself grace. Few things are more empowering than full bodily autonomy, especially for those who move through the world in marginalized bodies.

There is absolutely no judgment on the style, volume, or content of the tattoos you have or want to have. As with witchcraft and in spellwork, there is a spectrum of approaches to each new tattoo, and the only “rule” to impart for future collecting is for you to only get tattoos you truly love and make you feel more like yourself.

We will be breaking out into small groups where we can workshop adorning ourselves with temporary tattoos. Various temporary tattoo designs will be available to explore the power of placement, expressing personal style and manifesting intention through placement.

During this time Lindsey will be tattooing several people who would like to get a tattoo done incorporating the ritual tools learned in the workshop.

By the end of this workshop, the hope is that you have a better understanding of the aesthetic power of tattoos, the ways magic can be incorporated into your tattoos, and the ways tattoos can heal your relationship with your own body. You will leave feeling inspired & empowered to navigate your own adornment journey.

To prepare for the ritual, please bring:

• A meaningful item for an altar, to use during the group ritual
• Collaging tools (magazines, stickers, scissors, etc. - we'll have extras!)
• Comfy clothes (especially those who are getting tattoos!)
• Pen & notebook to take notes
• Any tools you need to create a supportive energetic container (we suggest candles, blankets, and water & snacks for nourishment!)

All tickets are nonrefundable.

If Seagrape Apothecary reschedules a workshop or class and an attendee cannot attend the rescheduled workshop or class, a class credit for the ticket value will be issued and will be valid for 1 year from the date of cancellation.

If Seagrape Apothecary cancels a workshop or class, attendees will get the choice between class credit or a Seagrape Apothecary gift card. If class credit is chosen, a credit for the ticket value will be issued and will be valid for 1 year from the date of cancellation. If the gift card is chosen, a digital gift card worth the ticket value will be shared via email and valid for 1 year from the date of cancellation.

COVID Exceptions: If an attendee tests positive for COVID and reaches out prior to an in-person class to let us know, a class credit for the ticket value will be issued and will be valid for 1 year.

Lindsey Chamberlain Strong (she/her) is a tattoo artist and witch based in Portland, Oregon. Originally from the magical mountains of Asheville, North Carolina, Lindsey has spent the past nine years perfecting her fine line botanical tattoos inspired by the flora, fauna, and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Her designs evoke a sense of dark whimsy and deep connection to the earth, and as her art practice and witchcraft have increasingly intertwined over the years she has developed an approach to tattooing that incorporates divination, spell craft, plant magic, and deep intuition to foster her clients relationships with their bodies and their own magical practices.As a passionate advocate for fat liberation and body positivity, Lindsey believes in the importance of not just representing, but celebrating and glorifying all bodies.
