About this Event

The Ripple is an inaugural evening of live music built around collaboration, improvisation, and the shared musical language of the Grateful Dead.

For one night, the Teton County Fairgrounds Community Building—not the barn—will be transformed into a dedicated concert space for several hours of live music. Local musicians will open the evening before the featured artists join The Deadlocks for an extended collaborative performance of Grateful Dead music, related favorites, and original songs.

John Kadlecik is a founding member and former lead guitarist of Dark Star Orchestra. He later performed alongside Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh in Furthur and currently performs with Melvin Seals & JGB. His playing reflects decades spent exploring this music as a living, improvisational tradition.

Guitarist, singer, and songwriter Duane Betts carries deep roots in American rock, blues, and country music. The son of Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts, Duane leads Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel, co-founded The Allman Betts Band, and has developed a distinctive musical voice of his own.

Drummer Jeremy Hoenig, a member of Melvin Seals & JGB, brings extensive experience from the San Francisco Bay Area’s Grateful Dead and improvisational music community. He has also performed with Phil Lesh and Bob Weir.

They will be joined by The Deadlocks, Jackson Hole and Teton Valley’s longstanding Grateful Dead tribute band. Formed in 2010, The Deadlocks have spent more than a decade building a local community around the Dead’s expansive songbook and the spontaneous character of live performance.

This is not a sequence of conventional, separate sets. The musicians will collaborate across the evening, allowing familiar songs to stretch into new territory while making room for original music, unexpected combinations, and the exchange that happens when accomplished players meet onstage.

Many of these musicians will reunite the following afternoon, September 26, for the annual Amplify Astoria event at Astoria Hot Springs Park, making The Ripple the opening night of a distinctive weekend of music in Jackson Hole.

The event has been made possible through the support of our sponsors. Proceeds will support the Betts Foundation.
