The Richard Burton Centenary Gala: An evening of celebration and performance.

Join us at The Orangery, Margam Country Park for exclusive entertainment from Michael Sheen, Jeff Wayne and special guests, celebrating how Burton has inspired generations of performers, artists, musicians and poets.

The evening begins with a drinks reception and canapes, before guests are invited to take their seats for the Gala in Margam Park’s stunning Orangery.

Performances throughout the night include:

• Michael Sheen giving an exclusive performance of ‘A Christmas Story’ the short story penned by Burton himself, inspired by his literary hero Dylan Thomas.

• West Glamorgan Youth Theatre’s previously sold-out performance of ‘Scattershot of Rich’, telling stories of the relationships that shaped him into the globally-renowned performer.

• An insightful tribute from Burton’s granddaughter, Charlotte Frances Burton.

• Performance from the award-winning Nansi Rhys Adams, winner of the 2025 Richard Burton Award at the National Eisteddfod.

• Music from Jeff Wayne’s multi-award-winning musical masterpiece ‘The War of The Worlds’.

• Q&A with Jeff Wayne, composer and contemporary of Richard Burton, discussing what it was like to work with the Voice of a Generation.

• Plus talks from the official Richard Burton Trails tour guide, Griff Harries, and special guests.

Look back on the remarkable legacy and life of Richard Burton, the iconic Voice of Wales, and enjoy a magical evening. Starting with canapes and a drinks reception, the evening will include performances and talks, showcasing Welsh talent.

Throughout 2025, Neath Port Talbot Council will take the lead on the Richard Burton Centenary, a programme of events celebrating 100 years since the Hollywood actor was born in Pontrhydyfen, Afan Valley. Developed in partnership with Swansea University, the programme is supported by Welsh Government, through Event Wales, and by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
