Bison once roamed Indiana’s prairies—but disappeared from the state by 1830. Today, they are making a remarkable return.
Join Mary Kay Emmrich, Bison Ranger at Kankakee Sands, to learn how a herd of just 23 bison reintroduced in 2016 has grown to more than 90, now grazing over 1,100 acres in Morocco, Indiana.
Discover how land once considered unusable farmland has been transformed into a thriving prairie ecosystem through the work of The Nature Conservancy—and how bison play a vital role as a keystone species in maintaining that landscape.
Free admission. Registration requested.
