The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is a darkly comic and thrilling look at power, corruption, and ambition, set in 1930s Chicago. Following the rise of a small-town gangster determined to take over the city’s cauliflower trade, the play mixes outrageous characters, biting satire, and theatrical spectacle to show how fear, manipulation, and greed can pave the way for tyranny.Equal parts funny and unsettling, the story keeps audiences on the edge of their seats while offering a reflection on how easily societies can be swayed by ambition and intimidation. Written as a parable of historical events in 1930s Europe, Arturo Ui reminds us that even the most serious political developments can be examined with irony, performance, and a touch of absurdity. The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is about the rise of a 1930 gangster taking over the Cauliflower trade in Chicago set against the backdrop of an abandoned circus tent and includes clowns.
