If you love movies and love talking about them, then you’re invited to join Cumberland County Library’s film discussion club, The Reel Thing, for an afternoon film followed by a thought-provoking discussion. The club will meet one Saturday every month, and club members take turns picking the films we’ll watch and discuss at upcoming meetings. Our next meeting is on August 23 at 1 pm.
The film being shown is the definitive film version of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic horror novel about a saintly scientist, Dr. Jekyll, whose experiments into human nature unleash the dark side of his own personality, causing Jekyll to transform into a savage brute that calls himself Mr. Hyde. Frederic March won an Oscar for his dual portrayal of the tormented Jekyll and the beast-like Hyde, and Miriam Hopkins is unforgettable in her star-making performance as the tragic barmaid abused and terrorized by Hyde. This 1931 film is unrated.
