The Pōhutukawa Model: Classroom Conversations About Death
About this Event
This seminar presents findings from Elisabeth’s doctoral research into classroom conversations about death in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The research explored the knowledge and perspectives of primary school teachers, Tangata Whenua and key informants on both proactive and reactive conversations about death.
The research led to the development of the Pōhutukawa Model, a culturally grounded and holistic framework to support thoughtful and effective conversations with children about death. The seminar will consider the implications for classroom practice, teacher education and support for school communities.
