About this Event

This event takes place on Monday the 21st of September and is the tenth of MathsWorld London's year long programme of monthly evening talks and events.

There is a key moment in every mathematician's life. It typically comes after having stared at the bathroom tiling pattern for five to ten hours, and then the flash of inspiration hits: "What this problem needs is a SOUNDTRACK!" Whether you're getting emotional about a straight line, debating how many examples is enough, or finding there's a conspiracy keeping the secrets of the universe from you, the Pseudorandom Ensemble knows exactly how you feel.

This show takes you on a musical journey through the highs, lows and medians of being a mathematician, with detours into the worlds of pentagonal tilings, squircles, square packing and more. Expect maths! Expect music! Expect significant amounts of exposition between the songs to make sure everyone's up to speed!

With special guest Helen Arney – geek songstress, musical comedian and one third of Festival of the Spoken Nerd.

Visitors will have the opportunity to arrive from 18.15 to explore the ground floor of MathsWorld before entry to the upstairs music area opens at 18:35. The show will begin at approximately 18:45, lasting approximately until 20:30, with the centre closing its doors at 21:00.
