Armed men force their way into your house! Ransacking it, panelling wrenched from the walls, your belongings strewn on the floor! They are looking for Catholic priests and those harbouring them!
During the reign of Elizabeth I, this is an act of treason, punishable by the most horrible death. The country is Protestant; the monarch is the head of the church. Catholics are the enemy!
One man did more to protect Catholic priests in England by concealing them than any other. His name was Nicholas Owen. Building devious hides in houses across the Midlands and East Anglia.
This talk is a costumed monologue of his life. From his early days to his demise, the priests he worked with, the ever threat of capture, his part in an escape from the tower of London and how the Armada and gunpowder plot touched English Catholics and the priests close to him.
Tickets are £14 per person (over 16’s only) and must be purchased in advance.
