In this workshop you will:
Learn about Milwaukee’s distinctive community-based response to HIV/AIDS and the grassroots innovations that arose.
Draw connections between past and present, identifying how lessons from AIDS activism remain urgent for today’s movements.
Recognize the importance of local and regional narratives that often go overlooked in national LGBTQ histories.
Reflect on your own community contexts and identify strategies they can adapt to strengthen local organizing.
About the presenter:
At the beginning of Pride Month 2024, Vince Tripi founded Expanding Horizons, a social-purpose business that offers traveling exhibits, talks, and curricula designed to celebrate diversity and foster pride in LGBTQ+ heritage. Vince is a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, dedicated to preserving its history and promoting a sense of belonging.
His notable achievements include being named Advocate of the Year by the Wisconsin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, a top 25 Emerging Training Leader by Training magazine, and receiving the Distinguished Service Award from UW–Milwaukee's LGBT Resource Center.
He serves on the board of directors of Milwaukee Pride, Inc.
