About this Event
Brewer Pond has a checkered past. It started as islands. The spaces between were filled to create a swimming area in the early 60s, only to be abandoned soon after because of river pollution. Residents of Old Ottawa South have been working since the 1990s to restore it to a natural area. In 2015, the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority opened the pond to the river, enhanced it as fish habitat and planted the surroundings with hundreds of wildflowers, trees, and shrubs. Currently, the Enviro Crew of Old Ottawa South works to control invasive species, such as Wild Parsnip and DSV.
At this walk, we’ll share knowledge about invasive plants and how we’re controlling them, but we’ll also talk about collecting seeds to grow your own wildflowers.
