The Point: Star Lighting Tradition Continues

For decades, the 28-foot-wide Star of Bethlehem Steel shone from atop the L Blast Furnace at Sparrows Point. Built by steelworkers and illuminated each holiday season, the Star became a familiar sight for generations of families throughout the surrounding communities - and, for many, a symbol that the holiday season had arrived.
When Tradepoint Atlantic purchased the property in 2014, the Star was preserved and later relocated to the water tower, where it continues to shine over the Point each holiday season.
On December 1, we invite the community to join us as we continue this special tradition and celebrate the past, present and future of Sparrows Point.
Much has changed beneath the Star, but Sparrows Point remains a place where people come to work, build and create opportunity. Today, 15,000 people come to work at the Point each day, as new businesses, industries and investment continue to bring jobs and economic growth to the region.
Come back to the Point, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies, celebrate the start of the holiday season, and see how a place that helped build generations of our community is creating opportunities for the next.
And keep an eye out - you may even catch a glimpse of Santa!
