Workshop 4 of our Summer Program:

The Poetic Body: Practicing Wonder
The Art of Deep Listening

Being in a state of deep wonder changes the world for us and the sense of our place in it. Whether we experience it in wild nature, a cathedral, the deep connection with another person, or a performance, not only do we feel far more connected with the worlds around and within, amplified through the release of specific hormones in deeper parts of the brain, but we are also given an opportunity to change our habitual ways of thinking, sensing and feeling through the integration of experiences made in this state. We become more receptive to the ways in which nature speaks to us, to the experience of being more fully in the Now. It is in this state of wonder that we look at a painting and perceive it as music, that we read a poem and perceive it as dance. Boundaries disappear; new connections emerge.

This workshop invites participants to practice wonder through deep listening to the worlds around and within. You’ll be invited to listen on drifts through the city of Berlin at dawn, emerge yourself into Berlin’s art world, follow our studio program into practices of poetic embodiment, join our early bird meditations. All these offers aim at a growing sensitivity for our “poetic body”, a core concept in the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq and a metaphor for your capacity to connect with the deeper rhythms and dynamics of life through wonder.

A fundamental precondition for any process of artmaking, and a lifelong practice for “finding beauty in the banal” and the “extraordinary in the ordinary”, this workshop addresses advanced performance makers interested in pathways to re-soul their creative practice in art and life.
