A chamber play using texts, poetry & music - tells a soldier and wife’s story of love, fear and courage amid war and displacement.
About this Event

“Are You Okay?” is an intimate chamber theatre performance built around real-time text messages between a Ukrainian soldier at the front and his wife, a school teacher in Kyiv, interwoven with contemporary Ukrainian poetry and live clarinet music.

Through fragments of everyday communication—fear, memory, humour, love, and hope—the piece reveals the quiet, persistent bravery of ordinary people living through war and displacement, echoing this year’s Refugee Week theme of courage in the face of uncertainty.

Performed by Matvii Smirnov, Yevheniia Shymshyrian, Sofia Smirnova, and Dmytro Fonariuk (clarinet), the event offers Richmond audiences an intimate human story of resilience, faith, and endurance shaped by the ongoing war in Ukraine.
