The Place We Make is a new collection of paintings and photography exploring the people, places, and contradictions that shape life in Jackson.
Through portraits, landscapes, landmarks, and everyday scenes, the exhibition examines how communities are formed—not only through major developments and public decisions, but through the quieter choices people make every day. Some works celebrate stewardship and connection. Others ask difficult questions about growth, preservation, identity, and change.
Many of the subjects will be familiar. A downtown storefront. A forgotten piece of infrastructure. A local business owner. A community volunteer. Viewed together, the paintings invite visitors to reconsider the places and people that often fade into the background of daily life.
The opening reception will be held July 10 from 5:00–7:00 PM at Havner's Frame Shop and will feature food from Jamaican and African Cuisine, live music from local artists, and an opportunity to engage with the work and the conversations it hopes to inspire.
Jackson is not a finished product. It is something continuously shaped by the people who live here.
This exhibition is an invitation to look a little closer at the place we make together.
