Sunday at the Piano
A monthly Sunday morning gathering in a café in Nantes, for anyone curious about the piano, classical music, and the stories behind the instrument.
Each month, we’ll take one question about the piano and explore it together through stories, historical context, musical examples, and conversation.
Our first meeting asks:
How did the piano become the piano?
We’ll explore questions such as:
- Why does a grand piano sound different from a fortepiano?
- What piano did Mozart actually play?
- Why did Beethoven change the way composers wrote for the piano?
- How did Chopin transform the piano?
- What happened when the piano became a modern instrument?
- Why does the piano have 88 keys?
- How did the piano become the instrument we know today?
This is not a piano lesson, and you don't need to play the piano or have any previous knowledge of music. It is a relaxed opportunity to learn, listen, ask questions, and discover the piano from a different perspective.
