About this Event
The People's Poets is an open mic experience curated to amplify voices of color in the PNW. We aim to support both aspiring and established writers in our community with a platform to share their talents. We believe all writers of color deserve a safe space where their voices are not marginalized. The People's Poets is a home for creatives and community lovers to feel inspired, validated, and poetically nourished. With the alarming rate of gentrification in the PNW it is crucial for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) poets to have a place to gather and embrace one another's voice, culture, and story. The People's Poets is a safe space where everyone is welcome, but the mic is reserved exclusively for the BIPOC community. We are now hosted every second Sunday at Akadi!
Doors open at 1 pm show starts around 1:30pm!
This is an all ages event. Food and drinks will be available for purchase!
Tickets will be available for purcase at door if we sell out online.
About the feature:
jared Cetz (any/él/leti') is a first-gen Maya Mexican writer / rapper / poet from The Numbers, SE Portland & Chunhuhub, QRoo and co-founder of Boca Ardiente. Around una fogata, between the teasing of lovers, under a tear-soaked pillow, beside relatives (both human & non-human), beyond borders, jared's writing explores the ephemeral, the genealogical, and the intimate-often while sharing cafecito with loved ones. jared holds a BA in Ethnic Studies from Brown University and is currently a member of Portland's 2026 Slamlandia Team.
