Active for nearly a decade, the band is widely recognized in underground acoustic circles for their high-energy, chaotic live shows and deliberate subversion of traditional acoustic roots music. Swamp Rats is a Florida-based DIY folk punk and "folky punkgrass" outfit. They seamlessly blend intricate, driving clawhammer banjo work with aggressive punk tempos and gritty, dual-vocal harmonies. Originally starting out as a stripped-down acoustic duo, their instrumentation frequently centers around acoustic guitar and banjo.
