In 1976, as Argentina descends into political turmoil, disillusioned Englishman Edward Montague (Coogan) takes a teaching post at a prestigious boarding school in Buenos Aires. Struggling to connect with the privileged students and haunted by his own apathy, Edward’s life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers an oil-covered penguin stranded on the beach after a spill.Defying logic—and school rules—Edward brings the penguin back to the dormitory. What begins as a personal rescue turns into a national symbol of resistance, as the orphaned bird (named Juan Salvado) draws out Edward’s compassion and awakens his conscience in a country on the brink of dictatorship.
