Ross Bay Villa | Victoria, BC

Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum proudly presents a photography show by local resident Bob Paterson. In a changing world we hold onto the familiar but do we really see it? Through daily life in Fairfield and the surrounding neighbourhoods Bob has photographed the small yet striking moments that build our sense of time and place. Between the idealized world seen in real estate pictures and the mundane realities of decay and detritus he looks for the middle ground of memorable details brought into the light. From built heritage now gone to familiar scenes captured in precise composition come experience one man’s view of the residential landscape called home.
The exhibit which is free to visit can be seen on April 19th 26th and May 3rd from 10-2. Walk through the Villa’s blooming gardens and enter our 1865 heritage home preserved with care by the Ross Bay Villa Society. Our museum offers a unique setting for this photography show having been part of Fairfield’s own urban landscape for over 150 years.
In 2004 Bob Paterson moved to Victoria with his wife and soon found the purchase of his first digital camera opened up a virtually unlimited opportunity to experiment. Taking his little Nikon point & shoot on walks allowed him to begin to see his neighbourhood in a different way. The residential landscape became his focus: the many components from streets homes and gardens parks and shops to the adjacent seaside beaches and shorelines integral to the neighbourhood where he lives.
