After exploring the Eastward flow of Boh Beh Kang (无尾江) on SG60 National Day, from Alexandra Canal (the upper reaches of the Singapore River) to Marina Bay Sands / Marina Reservoir, we now continue our journey to the Westward flow.
This time, we hike from Buona Vista → Ulu Pandan Canal → Pandan Reservoir, tracing the mysterious river once called Boh Beh Kang (Hokkien: “no tail river”).
Why “No Tail”? 🤔
In the past, this river seemed to flow in two opposite directions — eastward and westward. Due to Singapore’s flat, swampy terrain, the water could shift with rainfall and tides, creating the illusion of a river with no end.
Today, this fascinating heritage is reflected in our modern canal systems, essentially cutting across a big part of Singapore! 🗺️
✨ With this hike, we complete our exploration of the mystery of Boh Beh Kang, the hidden twin flow of the Singapore River.
