The Open Mic and Haiku Deathmatch

Got 17 syllables and a little bit of nerve? We have a stage for that.

Austin Poetry Slam is bringing back Open Mic & Haiku Deathmatch, a night for poets, word nerds, first-timers, and anyone who has something to say (or can say it in three lines).

We're kicking things off with an open mic, so bring your poems, your stories, your unfinished thoughts, or whatever you've been itching to get off your chest. Then stick around for the Haiku Deathmatch, where poets go head-to-head in a battle of wit, wordplay, and perfectly placed syllables.

Hosted by Micailah Ocaii and Teresa Johnson, this is a night to get on the mic, cheer somebody on, meet some fellow word lovers, and have a little fun with language.

You don't have to be a seasoned poet to join us. You don't even have to compete. Come share something, catch the performances, or see who can pack the biggest punch into just 17 syllables.
