Presented by Little Leapers & LEAP Performing Arts CompanyAfter a magical year performing at the Berglund Center in Roanoke, we’re thrilled to announce that The Nutcracker is coming home to the Center for the Arts (Formally the Moss Arts Center) in Blacksburg!
Little Leapers and the LEAP Performing Arts Company have been selling out The Nutcracker, directed by Heather Leeper, at the Moss for years — and this year’s production promises to be our most magical yet!
Our Nutcracker offers a unique and exciting twist on the beloved holiday classic. The lead character many know as Clara is reimagined as Marie — a spoiled, unkind, and selfish girl who believes the world revolves around her. The true heroine, however, is Clara, the maid’s humble and kind-hearted daughter. Through her selflessness and generosity, Clara receives the magical Nutcracker, leading us on an enchanting journey through the Land of Sweets.
But that’s not all — this production takes thoughtful steps to keep our audience engaged with newly added countries and choreography you won’t see in any other Nutcracker! In Act II, our expanded Land of Sweets includes vibrant performances inspired by American precision dance, the delightful Dutch key, the passion of the Italian Tarantella, and our newest addition — the exuberant French Can-Can!
What truly makes our Nutcracker unforgettable is not just the incredible talent of our dancers or the heartwarming charm of our youngest performers, but also our exclusive short film integration — keeping audiences immersed in the story like never before. As the only Nutcracker in the region to include a cinematic storytelling element, we promise a performance that’s equal parts breathtaking, engaging, and inspiring.
