Want to learn how to grow delicious gourmet Oyster mushrooms from the comfort of your home? Do you ever dream about picking fresh homegrown Shitake mushrooms from your backyard? Learn how to grow mushrooms while also learning why they are one of the most sustainably produced and nutritious foods on the planet. Join Sam Blackstone of Mindful Mycology LLC, a functional and gourmet mushroom farm in Dahlonega, for a presentation and demonstration on mushroom cultivation. Sam will demonstrate how you can grow mushrooms at home with just a five-gallon bucket, straw, pickling time, and water.
Sam Blackstone is an award-winning journalist, mushroom educator, certified wild forager, and owner of Mindfull Mycology, a medicinal/functional mushroom farm and extraction company (Est. 2020) nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains that provides people, stores and mushroom farms across the southeast with high quality medicinal/functional mushroom extracts. Since 2019, he has also written, taught for, and helped manage the Fungi Academy, a Guatemala-based fungi education center and community dedicated to spreading fungal wisdom via online courses and in-person retreats. He is excited to share his expertise and excitement about DIY home-scale mushroom cultivation with attendees!
Attend in person at 7PM in the CNC Plaza Conference Room and bring a dish to share for the potluck. Make new friends and connections at Nature Club while learning all at the same time. Sam’s presentation will begin at 7:30PM.
Ages 16+. $10 general public / $5 CNC Members. Advanced Registration Required. Register by the Wednesday before the program.
