SFMS is thrilled to host our first UUCY concert of the season with an evening of hard hitting country singing and song writing.
Inspired by the long tradition of radical country and folk artists, longtime friends Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson of The Montvales use their passion for literature and storytelling to confront the current political maelstrom and transform it.
The Cincinnati-based duo cut their teeth as teens busking on Market Square in Knoxville, TN. For their new album, they opted for a bigger sound, and the result is a bonafide, left-of-center indie country record.
Path of Totality charts a transformative pilgrimage through an inextricably connected world. A woman desperate to save her community from a gas pipeline in “Plains of Ohio,” a devout grandmother traveling across the world to Yugoslavia in search of the Virgin Mary in “Our Lady,” and a trouble-making Bible College misfit in “Loud and Clear” are just a few of the archetypes listeners meet.

Zachariah King has created his own brand of singer/songwriter style country music. He has been steeped in the heritage of Perry County country music from the very beginning. In his honky-tonk education, he graduated from performing at church services to singing at the local watering hole. There he found a whole new type of Wednesday night service with the joyous clankin’ of beer bottles and the harmonious singing of bar-room anthems.
Zach draws from a wide range of places for the inspiration to his songs; anything from past experiences, human emotion and local lore. Recently, Zach has been archiving local music with a focus on preserving and performing it for others to enjoy.
