The Monterey Bay Poetry Consortium welcomes you to enjoy a free evening of poetry featuring Gary Thomas and Gary Young on Saturday, February 14 @ 5:30 PM at the Pacific Grove Public Library, 550 Central Ave. (PG)

Gary Thomas is a founding member of the Modesto-Stanislaus Poetry Center and of the Stanislaus County writing group known as The Licensed Fools. Prior to retirement, Thomas taught eighth-grade language arts for thirty-one years and junior college English for seven. His poems have been published in The Comstock Review, MockingHeart Review, Atticus Review, River Heron Review, Barzakh, Blue Heron Review, Split Rock Review, Book of Matches, and Hole in the Head Review, among others. A full-length collection, All the Connecting Lights, was released in August 2022 from Finishing Line Press. His latest poetry collection, O Yes We Breathe, was published in November 2024 by Manzanita Writers Press.

Gary Young is the author of many collections of poetry, anthologies, and textbooks. His most recently titles are That’s What I Thought, American Analects, and Taken to Heart: 70 Poems from the Chinese. He has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the California Arts Council, among others, and his book No Other Life won the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America. Young’s print work is represented in collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Getty Center for the Arts. In 2009 he received the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America. He recently retired from the creative writing department at UC Santa Cruz, but continues to direct the UCSC Cowell Press.

The Monterey Bay Poetry Consortium seeks to showcase the finest talents of the diverse Central Coast literary community, from Big Sur to Santa Cruz to the Salinas Valley and beyond. Free readings are held on the second Saturday of each month at the Pacific Grove Public Library. All are welcome.
